S2 Grupo and Global Omnium sign a collaboration agreement to protect the water supply of more than 7 million people

S2 Grupo and Global Omnium have signed a collaboration agreement to cyber-protect the water supply to the more than 7 million people they serve. Global Omnium, which is the leading Spanish company in the management of the integral water cycle, is present in 11 Autonomous Communities of Spain and, in addition, in Asia, Africa and Latin America. For its part, S2 Grupo is currently one of the leading companies in the field of cyber-protection of critical infrastructures in our country and Europe. For this reason, it has been chosen by Global Omnium to develop a cybersecurity center specialized in the water sector to cover its specific needs in order to guarantee its systems, its operation and business continuity.

The team of experts from S2 Grupo has developed a pioneering cyber-protection infrastructure in the management of the integral water cycle that allows the incorporation of defensive services for the entire technological infrastructure of Global Omnium, including prevention, detection and response services to avoid possible cybersecurity incidents that could affect the water supply they offer their customers.

This initiative was launched by Global Omnium as a result of its commitment to efficiency and good governance in the management of risks, on this occasion, from those coming from the field of cybersecurity from an integral point of view and with the purpose of adding value to the business they develop. Together with S2 Grupo, they have developed an ambitious project to monitor cybersecurity in SCADA systems and industrial control of its facilities.

The system has a minimally invasive design and does not have the capability to block the plant operators’ actions or interfere in network traffic. In addition, its conception is that of an alert system and, as far as its execution is concerned, it guarantees that in no case will traffic coming from abroad be introduced into the tele-control network.

The basis of the system is to identify those situations that may involve a risk in the control infrastructure and its rapid detection, based on the precise knowledge of the way in which these types of systems are exploited. In the monitoring solution developed by S2 Grupo, it stands out that it allows working with industrial protocols, by analyzing the payload of the packets to identify the end of a specific command at the level of the industrial network.
