Valencia, April 20, 2020.- The Valencian cybersecurity company S2 Grupo has warned that the arrival of confinement has led to an unprecedented increase in massive cyber-attacks on individuals and companies. Experts from the company have reported that, without a doubt, the greatest wave in the history of phishing scams is taking place. These consist of impersonating the identity of a company or person and fraudulently obtaining private information from victims such as passwords, credit card data, bank information or directly infecting computers with malware, for example. “Any type of situation is good for a cybercriminal, if he can extract money. Now that we are at home, the use of networks and online services is even more common. For this reason, they take advantage of any outstanding news to develop deception methods that capture the attention of users and that download some document, enter some link or enter their credentials and thus achieve their goal: to steal our data, our money or the installation of malware on our computers”, explained José Rosell, managing partner of S2 Grupo. "The procedure is simple. The cybercriminal sends messages en masse posing as prestigious companies and asks to click on a link, for example, which will cause a virus to be downloaded onto our computer or take us to a false page where, if we do not realize it, we will enter our credentials or our bank details and the attacker will be able to use them”, commented Miguel A. Juan, managing-partner of S2 Grupo. The cybersecurity company has warned that these messages are arriving by email, by WhatsApp, by SMS or by social networks, and are attributed to well-known water and electricity companies, banks, supermarkets and television services. Experts from S2 Grupo have advised to be cautious if such messages are received, to check emails well and not to open them if the sender is unknown, to make sure that the website where we enter our credentials is the authentic one of the company and, if in doubt, to contact the company directly to make sure that the message is official. Along with this, if any type of cyber-attack is detected, the Civil Guard can be informed through the email ciberestafas@guardiacivil.org.
